WATER SOFTENERS

Get Rid Of Hard Minerals In Your Water Supply

A water softener is a device that is used to remove minerals that can cause hardness in water, such as calcium and magnesium. These minerals can cause issues with plumbing and appliances, as well as make the water taste and feel unpleasant. A water softener works by using a process called ion exchange to remove the minerals from the water.

Rent-A-Plumber offers water softener installation, repair, and maintenance services to ensure that your water softener is working properly and effectively removing minerals from your water. Our trained professionals can help you determine the best type of water softener for your home and ensure that it is installed and maintained correctly.

Water Heater Installation

How A Water Softener Works

  1. The water enters the water softener through a valve called the inlet valve.
  2. The water passes through a bed of small plastic beads called resin beads, which are coated with sodium ions.
  3. As the water flows through the resin beads, the calcium and magnesium ions in the water are attracted to the sodium ions on the beads and exchange places with them. This process removes the minerals from the water, making it "soft."
  4. The water then flows out of the water softener through the outlet valve, which is connected to the home's plumbing system.
  5. As the water passes through the plumbing system, it does not leave behind any of the minerals that can cause issues with plumbing and appliances.
